The Red Sox are done. I believe they've given up and I think most of the fans have too. You just can't fight for your play-off life when the fire has gone out of your belly. It's bad enough to lose to any team Manny Ramirez is on twice in one day, but to do it because you mailed it in two weeks ago is another story.
I know a lot of it can't be helped, 20 starters on the DL isn't doing the Sox any good, but since the All-Star break there haven't been any creative line up changes, any significant additions to the roster, anyone stepping up and into the void to show what he can do now that he's been given the chance. They've looked exactly like what they are: a triple A team playing in the big leagues. Actually, if you look at it that way, it doesn't seem as bad.
Josh Beckett has four wins, all against under .500 teams. That's the kind of year it's been. You now have my permission to find something else to do in October. I know what I'll be doing: praying that the Pats' defense is better than it looks.
